Ruth Williams

Ruth WilliamsRelational Counsellor, Specialist Autistic Spectrum and ADHD Counsellor

Ruth believes that the therapeutic relationship is central to the counselling process, encouraging those she works with to explore ways in which they relate to themselves and others, both now and in the past. She works with individuals and couples to help them overcome a range of psychological and emotional issues; creating an atmosphere of trust and identifying ways in which her clients prefer to work towards their goals. She offers an integrative approach using a range of models such as Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioural and Psychodynamic, which complement the Relational approach in which she trained.

Ruth has worked with a range of problems including anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, low self-esteem, self-harm, depression, post-traumatic stress, relationship difficulties, family conflict, bereavement, male and female sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Autistic Spectrum and ADHD Counselling
Ruth also offers a Specialist Service as an Autistic Spectrum and ADHD Counsellor and her personal and professional experience in this area extends over many years.  Ruth is able to offer a flexible approach, offering therapeutic alternatives to adolescents and adults who may not be comfortable with traditional therapeutic practices.  She works in a calm, peaceful environment with soft lighting and flexible seating.

Ruth helps develop strategies for those who suffer from disorganisation, procrastination or forgetfulness. She can offer support to people who have difficulty managing their anger and frustration levels, aiming to reduce anxiety, build self-esteem and improve overall confidence.

As well as working with people who are on the Autistic Spectrum, Ruth helps individuals who are going through the process of diagnosis, together with those who may not seek a diagnosis but simply require some assistance to improve the ways in which they manage certain aspects of their daily lives.  Spouses, couples or family members may also require some counselling to help them improve relationships with their loved ones, or at times may need some support for themselves.

Ruth provides coaching to help with the development of greater social confidence; helping her clients increase their self-esteem and feel more relaxed. These sessions are available on an individual basis or within a programme of small groups workshops which are run fortnightly. To reserve a place on the next course please email requesting details about the Social Ease Workshop and a booking form.
