CPD Day: Bereavement and Moving Onbereavement

The CPD day is an opportunity for counsellors and therapists to develop their knowledge and skills in specific areas relating to work with clients. CPD days have a strong focus on application to client work and includes an opportunity to bring client work for supervision.

How does the day work?

Bereavement and Moving On has a strong emphasis on application to the practice setting and developing confidence in practitioners. Delegates will explore issues around bereavement, supporting the client through loss and looking to move on.

To begin with, attendees will review the different stages and tasks of bereavement. We will then move to exploring using TA models to develop our understanding of how to work with clients whose mourning is chronic or complex. Additionally, we will be considering the importance of working through bereavement and loss as part of the psychotherapy and counselling process.

Course content

The course content will include:
Worden’s work on the tasks of mourning
the counsellor's role in the mourning process.
complex or chronic mourning
Using TA models to understand complex grief reactions and the importance of working through losses in psychotherapy.
Facilitating clients through grief and loss together with the personal and professional challenges to practitioners of this kind
of work.

Course objectives

At the end of the workshop you will:
Have an understanding of the tasks of mourning and additionally be able to recognise complex mourning.
Be able to use TA to assess and direct work and also have confidence in how to facilitate clients in moving through loss.
Reflection questions to consider beyond the workshop setting

While the workshop is largely experiential with big and small group work, there will be some didactic teaching.
The workshop runs from 10.00am to 4.30pm. The afternoon session also has an opportunity to bring real cases for supervision.

The cost of the day is £60. Lunch is not provided but drinks and tea break refreshments are included.

Who is the day for?

For counsellors and therapists from all modalities these workshops provide an excellent chance to explore using transactional analysis and integrative models in your practice as well as bringing client work for supervision to explore and understanding the application of theory to practice.
