Relational Counsellor, working with Young People and Adults
Sam is a relational counsellor. He believes authentic meaningful relationships are the backbone behind strong mental health. Our relationship with ourselves and others underpin how we perceive the world around us.
The therapeutic relationship aims to mirror our real world relationships. Sam believes the safe confidential space will allow the client the freedom to explore their relationships deeper.
He incorporates different models and theories to facilitate therapeutic change. Sam works to the client’s pace. He is comfortable working with a client who may want to focus on specific issues, or a client who is unsure where their distress stems from.
Work with Young People
Sam incorporates play into his work with young people. Children express themselves through play. Sometimes it can be difficult for children to express themselves verbally. Sam uses a combination of different resources to allow the young person to show how they feel. For example: sand, paint, drama, and playdough.
Sam combines talking therapy with creative mediums to work with teenagers. Mental health can be a confusing and daunting area for teens. Sam aims to facilitate the young persons understanding of their thoughts/feelings/behaviour, and support them in overcoming their distress.
Sam has studied psychology at BA (Hons) and MSc level. He completed a post graduate diploma in counselling & psychotherapy. He is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to their ethical framework.
