Overview

Michelle is an experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist, accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

She qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist in 2010 and has worked with both individuals and groups. Her clinical experience includes working with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, psychosis, bipolar disorder, personality difficulties and borderline personality disorder (BPD). She has a particular interest in self-harm and low self-esteem.

Michelle draws on a range of therapeutic approaches and tailors her work to the needs of each individual. Alongside Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), she may incorporate elements of Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She also works with people who have experienced trauma and can use EMDR as part of this work.

Professional Background

Michelle began her career in mental health nursing, qualifying in Leeds in 1999. She went on to work across a wide range of mental health services in both the UK and New Zealand.

Her nursing experience includes acute inpatient mental health, psychiatric intensive care, community mental health and day hospital services. In New Zealand, she also worked as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her wider experience includes working within a therapy centre in Bradford.

After many years working within NHS and mental health services, Michelle moved into private practice. Her background across nursing, psychotherapy and specialist mental health services gives her experience of working with a broad range of psychological and emotional difficulties.
