40 – 59 year olds less happy and more anxious

 

I was struck by this article in The Guardian about some findings from the Office of National Statistics that show those in the 40 – 59 bracket are finding it harder than other age groups. There is evidence that a combination of caring for children and aging parents is contributing to the problem.

The article includes a great quote from Rachel Boyd (Mind) that sums up the situation: “Although we all face challenging events throughout different stages of our lives, things can be particularly difficult for middle-aged people. They may be juggling the responsibility of caring for older family members at the same time as children, or dealing with other familial disruptions, like bereavement or divorce……”
